As soon as I can get it out, but not as soon as I'd like. Just like
always.

Yep, the book covers API 2.0. We're now up to 2.2. I decided
previously not to revise the book for API 2.1 because it wasn't a very
big change, and unlike software you can't give free upgrades. I am
revising for 2.2 because this version adds lots of fun new features
(web apps, J2EE integration, the <distributed> tag, etc).
In the meanwhile, I do feel comfortable recommending people read the
first edition even though it's getting dated because:
1) Apache/JServ is probably the most popular production quality servlet
engine, and it supports API 2.0. Tomcat has a fair distance to go in my
opinion before it can be considered equal to JServ.
2) ServletExec and JRun still only support API 2.1
3) Most of the interesting functionality of API 2.2 is outside the
"core". For example, 2.2 added web apps and deployment desriptors.
These features don't significantly change how servlets are programmed.
Readers of the first edition will be able to easily catch up on
deployment mechanisms when the new revision comes out.
4) I wrote two JavaWorld articles that can be considered small "patches"
to the first edition. The URLs are in my signature.
