Actually if you think about it, that's probably wrong also.  The calendar
has been changed numerous times over the last two thousand years and so even
2001 won't be exactly 2000 years from year 1.  The fact is that this January
1st is being heralded as the "popular" turn of the millennium, just as 1900
was considered the "turn-of-the-century".  While we should be sticklers for
detail in our code, lambasting someone for bringing glad tidings smack a
little of scroogy-ness.
