Hi I am confused about the role of a web server vs application server in a Servlet environment. When installing application server like WebLogic or Orion what is the role of a Web server like Apache, or application server totally replace the role of the web server? In the WebLogic page (http://www.beasys.com/products/weblogic/server/datasheet.html) there is a picture, which shows that WebLogic can be deployed as a Web Server or can be used as a Plug-In to other Web Server like NES, IIS or Apache. What is the advantage of deploying as a Plug-In over working as a Web Server, What it says about other Application Servers that can't work as a Plug-In?
