I have used classpath in the /etc/profile (now via a script under
/etc/profile.d/) for the earlier working installation, but not in the current
setup. The latest Java spec will automatically find jars in the
JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext subdir now - evidently classpath has been deprecated for
the newer versions (I like.)
But maybe the JSDK 2.0 jar files need a classpath env variable. I'll try that
next.
I just investigated Apache Jakarta Tomcat, have downloaded it, and will install
soon. It sounds like the next step from Apache Jserv. Perhaps it will resolve
some of the inconsistencies in locating class packages, which seems to be the
heart of my current problem.
Guess I have to descend into Hades once again!
