Hi Jim
Running on Linux I Guess? Java has a problem/bug (sun say a "feature
request") in the Linux JDK.
Java AWT , even if just loading / drawing offscreen, requires a canvas..
ie a X installed... I'm told you can use headless X, but it seems to me
ridiculous to need to install X just to load an image. if you agree, go to
java.sun.com and vote for this as a feature request.:)
Anyway, have a look at :
http://www.eteks.com
They have a replacement / augmentation to awt that does not requires X
installed.
