Basically - everything you ever heard about server-side computing:

1. Less dependancy on client environment (Java support, version,
memory, user preferences (can disable java), etc).
2. Saves you the need to download the applet.

That's mainly it.

(Just to level our understanding - displaying an image from a servlet,
as I see it, means to send the image as part of an HTML page generated
by the servlet).
