I heard that Formula One charges a lot. Have you ever tried Spread?

I c a lot of people in this list are interested in building an excel
file
with java, so let share my experience.

as far as i know, there are 2 packages in java that can generate excel
file.

1st one is ExcelAccessor bean from IBM's Alphaworks site
ExcelAccessor cannot generate any chart, so i didn't tried it

2nd one is Forumla one.
Formula one version 7 is a very good package as long as you don't need
to
plot a chat..... It only provides two functions (i should say one
because
both of these functions are used to set the range of the chart), to plot
a
chart. If you want to plot a chart with more than 1 set of data with
each
set has its own x and y values programmatically (without excel marco),
it is
just not possible (tell me if i'm wrong, i'm trying to solve this
problem
for 20 hrs now). I made a call yesterday, they said they will have a
better
verion later on this year.....

poor me, i'm thinking to give this up and use asp instead.....

if u only need a chart, you can use kavachart (www.ve.com they have some
nice example to show how to generate a chart on fly.). I use formula one
because my customer requested a excel report (including some tables and
chart).

if you need my src code, i can send it to do.......

the problem i'm having now is that i know know hoe to set the
x-label.....

before?
