Depending on the exact situation,
you might store an MD5 hash
of the password in the cookie.
The disadvantage of using DES
is that you have a secret key
to manage, and since DES is
symmetric, if your key leaks
out, then other users passwords
are vulnerable.
DES would be better than nothing.
