I took a look at www.walmart.com (from a 28.8 K modem connection), and It
was not that slow. The reason for it to be slow is the page has too many
pictures and they do not optimze the picture sizes....It has nothing to do
with servlet/jsp. I use servlet and jsp heavily and their performance is
great. Most of the time, jsp is only slower than the servlet the firstime
it is being compiled. Most jsp engine check the jsp source version and the
.class of the corresponding generated servlet so that it is not going to be
recompiled again the next time. If that is the case jsp and servlet should
be the same.
Take a look at some of our stores which use both servlets and jsps:
www.reliantcommerce.com/gotosite.jsp?siteID=11
www.reliantcommerce.com/gotosite.jsp?siteID=10
www.reliantcommerce.com/gotosite.jsp?siteID=9
www.reliantcommerce.com/gotosite.jsp?siteID=8
Good luck.
