Hard to say what's in "general use" now, but I don't think that really
matters, you should go with the latest version, especially if you're
just getting started using servlets.  There's a fairly big change from
2.1 to 2.2 (because of the way web "applications" are handled), and
not only is it nicer than the previous versions, there's no sense in
creating things for an earlier version and then having to migrate to
the new version, when you can just create things for the new version.
