It may take more time that one time, but it can lead to time savings
in the long run, and be beneficial to the list (which is the business
of anyone who cares about the list).

And many of those "handful of people" are the ones that answer a lot
of questions on the list as well.

There may be many people who simply come on the list to ask a question
or two, but there are also many that stay on the list for a while,
participating in (or just reading) discussions, and asking and
answering questions.
