Hi Poornima,
I've got few suggestions.
1. If you are ready to dedicate a port for your servlet you can achieve this by using
Cron(unix) / Scheduler (Windows) to start the servlet runner. I think this will not be
a
big problem because in your case you don't need any client interaction to trigger this
operation.
2. If you don't have problem in adding this operation into your main servlet use
swing.Timer and swing.TimerSchedule.
3. No need of thread, Timer etc... just send a dummy request to your servlet using
Perl/CGI, based on the request start your process.
BUT, the method last methods will block/slowdown your main servlet activity so, keep
this
in mind and schedule accordingly. Hope it may be help
