And be sure to check that you are closing the connection object. MySQL may
only support so many open connections and eventually the open connections
max out.

The one time that we had "unexpected"
servlet-does-not-respond-till-a-restart problems, we looked in the code and
saw that statements and result sets that were being opened weren't being
properly closed. So you may want to check for this..?
