BTW, processor cycles are cheap.

Back in 95, when a client of mine asked how much would it cost to hire a DB
specialist to increase the performance of a relational database (running on
a 32 MB 486 Win NT 3.1 box) I said (after giving a quick look at the
database-related code and finding no blatant mistakes) it would be far
cheaper to upgrade the hardware than to hire a DB guy (they were very
expensive by then).

And so they went. They spent about the same they would on the DB guy in
hardware and got a 200% performance gain and a brand new server.

Hardware is usually cheaper than people.

Having said this, even if ASP gives better performance than JSP, by going
JSP you will have far less headaches in updating the software than with ASP,
as you will end up with a better overall architecture and more choices of
hardware in the future.

And to make sure I am unbiased, I have used both ASP and JSP and made my
move to Zope last year, as I can state our team can be much more productive
with it than it could with either ASP or JSP. Better architecture means more
productivity.
