Its not peculiar. Check your Oracle logs. You should update it with ' A'.

Subject: Updating Char value

Hi all

Iam facing a peculiar prob...while updating the Oracle db the key value iam
using in where clause of preparedstatement has a data type of char(2).if the
key value is two alphabets like 'AB' the update is smooth. But if char value
is one alphabet like 'A' the update doent take place and there is no errors.
