Tomcat 3.x.x -> Servlet 2.2 / Jsp 1.1 Tomcat 4.x.x -> Servlet 2.3 / Jsp 1.2
I think you should go with Tomcat 4.x.x as the new standards have introduced several major and minor improvements, e.g. filters.
