The simple question is, "Why are you using Windows XP?" Like every other edition/version of Windows, it will take years for all the security issues and bugs to be worked out. Take it for granted: Microsoft uses it's user base to beta test its software. That's why we have SP1, SP2, SPn...to continually fix the stuff M$ didn't properly test because of the rush-to-market for $$$. No other software company in the world does this.
"Downgrade" your system to a stable, reliable (is there such a thing from M$?) release and you probably will not have anymore problems. If you insist on being on the bleeding edge, suck it up, dude! You are the kind of user M$ loves! Cheers!
