try following command.
telnet HOST_NAME PORTNO [RET]
GET /URI/TO/YOUR/SERVLET HTTP/1.0 [RET][RET]
for example,
telnet localhost 8080
GET /examples/servlet/HelloWorld HTTP/1.0
Note if your terminal is set local echo Off, then
line "GET ..." is not visible.
