I have a question:
Hope this is the right forum and I dont launch another 100 thread
discussion on why its not. :-P

first the environment.. windows 2k with JBoss-2.4.3_Tomcat-4.0
                                        unix (solaris) with
JBoss-2.4.3_Tomcat-3.2.3

I have a servlet that is being used as a controller. It is so
generic that it is being used by multiple applications.
I used to have to move the source of this into every new application and
build it with that application. However, my collegue is doing it where he is
copying it into the lib/ext folder of JBoss so that the class file is
visible to everyone.
He's doing this on the unix station and it works great. I recently tried it
with my own setup and it doesnt work! (404 error when i try to go to the
servlet).
        My questions are:
        1) is this a bug in that version of Tomcat or
        2) is there something wrong with the way we are doing it? ie.. does
the servlet's class file have to be in the WEB-INF folder of the war that it
is used in? i dont think this would be the case as i cant find any mention
of that "rule" in the servlet specs and i know that my class files for
drivers/parsers are located in jars inside the lib/ext folder as well.

So what am i doing wrong?
-Tim
