I recently installed Tomcat 4 and started it in local mode on port 9090 (to avoid
possible conflicts with standard internet calls) and while it was running, downloaded
and then attempted to install various Windows NT-based applications (inc. Java SDK,
J2EE etc). But the installers concerned seemingly refused to run. Then I stopped
Tomcat and noticed that dialog boxes popped up all over the place and Windows Task
Manager had lots of "zombie" processes relating to these failed installs!! Can anyone
enlighten me as to what was going on and why? Incidentally, I've since used Apache Web
Server with ServletExec and had no problems of this type...but I'm still curious to
understand what happened and whether this is a bug/undocumented feature of Tomcat.
