My application is fairly regularly throwing two kinds of exception.
Fairly regularly as in about 5 of each every 7000 page views.

I don't know if this is to be expected, blaming it on the vagaries of the
web ?!

I have the servlet called initially, this does the logic then I use a
RequetDispatcher to utilise a JSP for formatting.
Both exceptions occur at the RequsetDispatcher.forward(request, response)
line.

The exception is either

1/ NullPointer: either the request or response is null (since the dispatcher
itself is only created on the preceding line!).
The request and response are wrapped in the session for easy transport
through the various methods, only thing I can think of is the session is
getting invalidated, but the timeout is 15 minutes! I was going to remove
the session transporting approach and see if it helped.

2/ IllegalStateException: I know you can't commit any response or even get
an OutputStream. I don't!! No idea how this can happen, totally flummoxed!
