I'm a Park Naturalist in a county park in Florida and I've
worked alternate weekends for years. My wife's a nurse and
she does too.
Agreed, Americans are provincial about their language and
world view. But Brits are no better. For instance, they
have a way of modifying the pronunciation of languages like
Spanish to suit their own proclivities. As in Jag-you-are
and Nicarag-you-a, pronounced in the inimitable British way,
despite the rules of Spanish pronunciation.
So did they catch the guys who cut the fiberoptic cable?
Did the perps get away with any copper?
