I thought that as a precaution for people who might
try to cheat that SETI sent out identical copies of the same WU?

Yep, I lost several, and
apparently so did a lot of people. I found this on
the SETI@home Technical News Reports Page:

Last night the server started generating spurious "duplicate
result"
messages. The cause appears to be related to a server revision
made yesterday
afternoon. We've reverted to an earlier server version and
are investigating
the problem.
