Hello, The [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list is restarting operations today after about a ten-day outage, due to several reasons. About ten days ago the list was flooded with email in an apparently-unintentional denial of service attack from a user infected with the SirCam virus. None of the messages made it to the list, but as list administrator I had a mailbox flooded with ~50 MB of mail from this user; worse, I was travelling at the time with a slow dialup connection! To deal with this problem I temporarily shut down the list so that I could take measures to prevent mail from this user from causing additional problems. I had planned to restart the list early last week, but the tragic events that unfolded in New York City, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania made the list a trivial concern. With the shock from at least the initial phase of this crisis fading, I have taken steps to restore the list. Please feel free to discuss matters related to SETI@home, if you so desire. However, since there are many other more suitable outlets for discussion of recent events, I do ask that discussion here be limited to issues directly related to SETI@home.
