I'm absolutely on this list, as well as the new setup list. Since
this message pertains to the OS X installer, I'll chime in here. One
of the drawbacks I hear of the current installer is the challenge of
running multiple versions of Plone simultaneously. Another is the
challenge of downgrading to previous versions following an install of
the latest version, as David experienced recently.
So, here's my question for those who use the OS X installer...
Would you prefer each version of Plone installed via the installer to
co-exist with previous versions? For example, when installing 2.1.1
on a box that has 2.0.5 installed, would you prefer to place the two
versions of Plone in separate folders, running on distinct ports, or
would you prefer a more transparent, albeit irreversible, installer
upgrade experience?
Here are the benefits and drawbacks (--that I can think of at the
moment--) of building an installer that installs each version of
Plone at a distinct location. Feel free contribute your thoughts
here and add to each list.
Benefits
- Ability to run multiple versions of Plone simultaneously on the
same box
- Ability to test the new version before migrating data and products
from the existing site
Drawbacks
- Less transparent upgrade process for those relatively new to Plone
- Requires manual transfer of Data.fs, extension scripts (external
methods), etc. to new site

David,
I would email the maintainers of the OSX installer directly.
I know absolutely nothing about the OSX installer. Kamal and
Tyrell Corp
know the OSX installer. They should atleast sign up to the mailing
list
Limi,
Do you know if anyone from Tyrell or Kamal is reading this list?
We should get simon eisenman as well on this list. I can handle
Windows issues. Only "volunteer" time. But atleast I can answer.

Subject: [Setup] Can't reinstall plone 2.0.5 on Mac OSX
(I'm sending this to plone-users too since there is so little
traffic on setup, I'm doubtful that this will seen by Mac OSX
plone guys) I had recently installed plone 2.1.1 on Mac OSX
10.4.3. I'm having so many migration problems, I want to
reinstall 2.0.5 (ideally and to retain the 2.1.1
installation, but I'm not sure how to really do that). When
I go to install 2.0.5, the installer starts. The graphical
window appears. I click through Intro,Read Me, Select
Destination, Install Type. When I click "Install", I get
this message;
"You can not continue - there is nothing to install". Any
suggestions? Thanks.
One other anomaly. I double clicked the
Plone2.0.5-MacOSX.pkg.tgz file, and I get this message -
Couldn't open "Plone2.0.5-MacOSX.pkg". So, I used tar from
terminal window.
