Apologize in advance for this NOOB question: I am a web designer with VERY LIMITED programming skills. I have just installed a Plone site (Plone 2.1.2, Zope 2.7.8, Python 2.3.5)  for our organization's intranet. I have configured a number of products (PlonePoll 2.4, PloneGlossary 1.3.2, SCAuditorium 0.2 Build 50). Everything working well and as expected. I am now assigning various roles/permissions to users. Problem is: all users with roles MEMBER, REVIEWER, AMODERATOR get shut out ("insufficient priviledges") of things like news stories. They are able to drill down through a series of folders but are prevented from viewing external files (pdf, for example). Only MANAGERS are able to see them. I have read the Definitive Guide's section on Security and Users. I tried everything I can think of via the Plone admin interface as well as the ZMI without success. I don't seem able to assign rights to non-managers. The verbose error from the error_log says: "Your user account does not have the required permission. Access to 'right_slots' of (ATBTreeFolder instance at 03D8DA40), acquired through (ATNewsItem at /Plone/Members/jdana/news-items/bita-takes-over-electronic-newspaper-collection), denied. Your user account, jdoe, exists at /Plone/acl_users. Access requires Access_contents_information_Permission, granted to the following roles: ['Manager', 'Owner']. Your roles in this context are ['Authenticated', 'Member']."

Please somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong!

Thanking you in advance,

John Dana
