Sounds strange.
You should see the edit tab if you log on as admin.
Not through the ZMI. The regular plone home page.
Try with plone just after installation. with no extra products.
Maybe you already have.

The TTW interface? I see no edit tab, logged in as admin. That could
have gotten zapped with a product I loaded. I see "Kupu editor", that's
the only thing close. Also, can't I do this through the ZMI?
