Thanks Nick for this email. I have close to 15+ third party products
installed in Plone but I am not sure what are being used in Plone 2.0.5. Is
there any way to find this out?
Rohit,
You can search for content of a particular type. If your 3rd-party
product provides content, then search for content of that type. If the
content is old and not needed anymore (for example a survey that ran in
the past), its best to delete it now. If its still needed, you will need
a later version of 3rd-party products to make it work, and possibly, you
will need some kind of conversion to happen.
Also, what would be the best way to find out
if these products are compatible with 2.5 or 3.0 versions of Plone?
Just look at the product page on plone.org for all of these.
The list
of products which I was able to gather are these:
BTreeFolder2
There is an ATBTreeFolder that comes as standard with Plone now. I'm
guessing that BTreeFolder was an earlier type of BTreefolder. I can't
remember if it came with Plone 2.0.5 as standard. Someone else may comment.
CMFQuestions
This is now replaced with PloneSurvey. Version 1.1.1 works well with
Plone 2.1 and 2.5. 1.2.0 works (with a few bugs) with 2.5 and 3.0.
Upgrading existing surveys from CMFQuestions to PloneSurvey. could be
messy and involve writing your own scripts. Best to throw away the old
surveys if you can.
DocFinder
DocFinderTab
This is just the doc tab, a Zope product with which you should have no
problems at all. get the latest versions.
Epoz
Get version 2.0.2 if your version is earlier. Let Zope find it, but
don't install it in Plone as it might fight with kupu. This will work.
Trust me. ;-)
ExternalFile
Formulator
You can get later ones of those which work with 2.5 and 3.0
generator
IssueTrackerProduct
NauScheduler
NuxDocument
These sound old and probably have to be scrapped.
PloneLocalFolderNG
Check the product page - maybe Andreas Jung (author) might advise you.
PloneSiteMap
PloneWeatherForecast
You could safely ditch these I think
PortalTransforms
This is part of Plone, not a 3rd-party product
WeatherReport
you could scrap this too . Who really needs a weather report? ;-)
Workgroup
don't know about this
ZMySQLDA
ZSyncer
As Zope products, these shouldn't be too problematic to upgrade, but I
don't know too much about them
Basically, I did a comparision of Products directory in 2.0.5 and 2.5.5 and
listed only unique ones (ones where were not present in Products directory
of 2.5.5). Is this the correct approach? Let me know.
That is basically correct, but also look at what is in a clean Plone
install. might be better to compare your products against a freshly
installed 2.0.5 to see whats been added.
You can also see if the BTreeFolder came with 2.0.5 by looking at that.
Cheers
Nick
