Hm, you are right.

But,

Due to the specification (I know, this is video, but still, codec is
codec):

Flac is somehow supported (at least in specification).

Here some user is writing about his chromium working also with flac :

Anyway - maybe I will have to give up with Flac or make it tricky -
performing encoding to high quality vorbis file...

However - I like wikipedia approach - sounds file are represented with
<audio tag> - I am looking forward to use this one as well (with all his
limitations).
