...going to win some major prizes for
silverchair's new album "Neon Ballroom". For crying out loud,
he's got THEM sounding GOOD! And I mean LISTENABLY good!!
It's probably helped that they've finally
written some half-decent songs. In fact, a fair bit of it sounds like the
lead singer's relationship with Adalita from Magic Dirt has helped his
songwriting a lot, and his singing is actually fairly un-grating for a
change. I'm an anti-silverchair
person. I always have been, but I've got to admit that this new album is
pretty good. Oh, and David Helfgott plays a mean piano on the opening
track. Also, whoever arranged the strings is a fucking genius. Sure,
they're way overused, but they sound fantastic and add to the songs rather than
complementing.
But Launay's production job is pristeen - a
sonic-sheen is added to a fairly beefy sound, and it sounds better than the job
he did on "Freak" by a long way (which is kinda disappointing as GvsB
are such a better band).
