I know, I know...this isn't a Fugazi list. But since there's a lull in
GVSB happenings...

I wandered into the local indie record store
(Lou's...www.lousrecords.com...that was a plug if you didn't notice) and
what do mine eyes see before me? Fugazi's new film "Instrument." All
packed up in cellophane and giving me the eyes to take it home. Well,
needless to say, I did. I was planning on doing it via mail-order but
they're distributed already! I didn't even know it was out full-release
yet.

Incredible. Absolutely incredible. If you are a fan, buy it. If you're
not a fan, buy it, you will be. Jem Cohen has had the great fortune of
being alongside the band for over ten years and now with this film he
has invited us all in to watch, in essence, the history of Fugazi.
Interviews, "fan" profiles (both good and bad) and some of the most
incredible live performances I have EVER seen on film. The Glueman
performance in NYC at the near the conclusion of the film defies
description. It is quite simply the embodiment of musical passion and
energy.

Highlights, for me, included some classic Ian/Guy bonehead-in-the-crowd
scoldings ("...you ice-cream eating motherfucker..."), in-studio filming
during the recording of Red Medicine (now I know why Guy is screaming at
the end of By You), Guy planning George Burns' untimely demise shortly
before his 100th B-day and the mesemerizing sequence accompanying an
extended demo recording of "Pink Frosty."

See it. Rewind it. Then watch it again.
