Hello I'm looking for a IAX2 client (with encryption!) to use on Debian testing. I've tried the sflphone-gnome 0.9.8.4-1 package from Debian, but that gets me two problems (well, three, I'll get to that in an instant):
- somehow it never saves configuration information, each time I start it I need to configure it anew - I've checked traffic with tcpdump and it *does not* seem to encrypt IAX2 traffic. At least, the user name is passed in the clear, along with some hash of the password it seems (is it a secure handshake or just some useless scrambling?), also "Dumped call" appears at the end of a call, all of which only makes me think it does not encrypt anything at all Should I try the newest release from source? Also there is a long standing problem with Debian and VoIP solutions: microfone input is not downsampled / lowpass filtered correctly. All the voip programs with the exception of Skype are requesting 8000 samples per second and on two of three laptops I own, Debian (plain ALSA without pulseaudio) is delivering those as momentary values of an input signal that has not been low pass filtered, so sound quality is horrible. On one of my laptops I installed OSS4 for this reason, which delivers good sound quality, but the pain of dealing with OSS4 (no real suspend support, application compatibility) makes me not to want to go the same route with my new laptop. Does anyone here know how to fix Debian/ALSA? Or could anyone help me figure out where to patch sflphone to request samples at 48kHz or so and downsample properly in the application? (Also, are you developers in some IRC channel?)
