Thank you David for your answer. My post was harsh. But it is because I have tried what I could find of sip zrtp softphones. And beside from jitsi voice, nothing worked. If I had not made that one work, I would not have known if I could get a sip phone working at all. What did not make it better was, that sfl apparently works out of the box on your system. Now I uninstalled everything slf, and followed your stated commands. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoirfairelinux sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install sflphone-client-kde sudo apt-get install sflphone-gnome At least I cannot do that wrong. It installs sfl version 1.0.2-1ubuntu2. That version will not work because of dependencies that do not match at all.

The ubuntu 12.04 policy on updating repositories I do not get. Some applications get updated and upgraded, a lot not. Libre office 3 is there by default, but has not been upgraded to version 4. Being the biggest linux distribution it should be more pro. I this case what I do not get is, I add an ppa, and still the fetched packages are obsolete. Should using an ppa not go around the built in ubuntu package manager? Regarding some other applications it does. Thank you.
