yeah iirc that happens when a shared library wasn't compiled pic, which
happens quite easily particularly when you override the compiler flags
like we often do. It's quite possible the flex shared library isn't pic
(and more than that as well, I've seen a few and we really need to go
audit them all).

I think it takes some time to get through to the right place.

The right thing is to file a bug as you tried, but it's not wrong to mention it
here. At least it goes on my long long list of things to look at :)
