Hi,

One of the things we're using SGD for is allow people to connect to
their desktop PC from off-site. I've been asked about providing the same
functionality for people with OS X Macs on their desktop. One solution
I've found involves using VNC but isn't particularly efficient. I can't
help wondering whether there's an X11 route for this since OS X can have
X capabilities but I'm not sure that the basic OS X desktop (Aqua?) is
X-based. Anyone got any bright ideas?

I am very much interested in this as well. However, I doubt there is a resonable solution for this problem, at least not as long Sun does not develop a connector for MacOSX. I have no hope they will do this anytime soon.

You can install X11.app on MacOSX to run X-applications. E.g. the native SGD client is based on this X11 enhencement. But normal Cocoa/Carbon (Mac) application have nothing to do with X, so the Unix application X connector cannot be used to connect to a Mac and bring the Mac application to e.g. a Windows box or mobile client.

I have experimented with VNC as well and finally gave up (no viable solution). :-(

Regards,

  Andreas
