since I got no response to my posting sent a few days ago I dare to ask
the question again. Is it possible to access the serial port of the
client device (Mobile Windows running on a pocket PC) from a unix
application running on the SGD server (Solaris 10)?
I heard that the automotive industry does this for testing engines.
Jimmies car repair service next door does need no more than a windows
notebook and an adaptor to connect the vehicle electronic to the serial
port of the notebook. The test software actually runs in the data
center on BMW, Mercedes,... The windows notebook has nothing more than
an SGD client installed. Is this just rumor or can anybody confirm this
setup? We would like to do the same to make the GPS mourse (actually a
serial port) on the client devices accessible by the unix app running
in the data center on the sgd server.
