I am interested to know more about your snmp alert. Can you share with me, how did you configure snmp to alert you the tta load ? Also, what other alert can snmp alert us ?
The snmp alert does not alert about tta* specifically, but cpu load in general. I'm using cacti (http://www.cacti.net/) as well as nagios and the snmp cpu load check (http://www.nagiosexchange.org/cgi-bin/page.cgi?g=Detailed%2F1903.html;d=1)
I have it set up to alert me with an instant message or email if the cpu load gets to be too high. In that case, I log onto the machine and see if tta*.exe is the culprit (and it usually is).
SNMP is pretty cool in general. We're monitoring memory, disk, cpu, and # of users for all of our terminal servers. Unix side we also check hardware status such as temp, and raid arrays. Since we are pretty poor, projects like cacti and nagios really help out.
The SNMP checks are really just a bandaid on the actual problem of the sgd processes freaking out. Ultimately, we are looking to sun to fix the client.
