I setup STN for a friend who has two workstations, a Pentium Gateway
running Win98 and a new iMac.
The STN is connecting through AT&T cable modem.
Both can get out to the net and can surf at relatively the same speeds.
The Win98 using Netscape and the iMac uses IE, perform well when
surfing.
The Win98 workstation receives mail just fine, but the iMac takes
forever (6 hours if you let it complete) to pull down 3 short text only
messages. The Win98 Gateway pulls these down in seconds.
With admin, it appears that the byte counts move quicker (but still
slow) through the external nic but very long delays then a few increased
counts when moving through the internal nic. Then long delays (no byte
activity) again for both. Then the process starts over again. So, my
suspician is that the bottleneck is between the STN box and the iMAC.
The Pentium Win98 Gateway, again, does not have this e-mail problem.
Anyone have a similiar situation?
Are patches or updated drivers required, maybe, on the iMac side?
Any suggestions?
Again, it appears that the STN box is functioning propery as noted
throught the performance of the Gateway.
Any help/suggestions would be most appreciated.
