The long and the short of it is that the kernel that John's rolled for distribution of
STN incorporates most of the firewalling features you want. The "Kewl" part is the
Windows management tool and the thttpd server tool that he's included. If you run a
portscan on an out of the box STN install you'll find there's nothing open for folks
to get "in". If you start poking holes in that firewall ruleset you'll have more and
more ways for folks to get *in*...

So... Long answer short.

1. The ruleset you're asking about is all contained in the <whatever you named it>.stn
file. This is the file that keeps all the secrets you answered in your setup.

2. It's really easier than that tho. If you're looking for "standard" services, look
in the admin tool ( Advanced Setup => Network => Configure => Inbound Services). If
you're looking for "special" services, look again in the admin tool (Advanced Setup =>
Network => Configure => User Specified Inbound services).

I hope it helps. Firewall configuration is more of a zen art than just willy-nilly
poking holes in things...

Subject: [ShareTheNet] Firewalling

Hi:
I am learning my way around with the 'ShareTheNet' product. While I
rummaged through most of the files I did not discover any firwalling
rules. I am connected through a cable modem to the internet and for
that reason I am somewhat concerned about hacking attempts.

Accordingly, I request information as to which files contains the
firewall rules. Should such file not exist, I would appreciate
directions which file to edit in order to add firewall rules.
Moreover, if someone out there has set up a file and would like to
share, I would be grateful.

Thsnk you in advance for taking the time to reply.
