Lucky you with getting the NEW GI SB3100! Those are just out a few weeks to
the cable companies. You should not have a problem with the set-up and the
info about Linux not working with the GI is rubbish. I do work for the cable
company :) Make sure the settings are correct. Are they running DHCP or
static IP's with ADELPHIA? DHCP can cause some problems if not set
correctly. I am not familiar with the way that MSO runs the cable modem
service.

Subject: [ShareTheNet] Surfboard Cable modem
I had been running STN using my modem connection and have since upgraded
to my local cable company's (ADELPHIA) cable modem which is a Surfboard
SB3100 and their NIC (Kingston KNE100TX). Using NT4.0 Workstation and
DHCP I can connect and access the web, and over my other NIC I can see
and access my local intranet. But using STN and setting the internal
and external as it was but now using a cable modem. STN never gets a
DHCPOFFER and waits and waits with no success. Indications from
ADELPHIA is that Linux has problems in working with the Surfboard. I
have tried setting to the RFC, using my IP address and my designated
Gateway but still no connection. Ideas, solutions anyone?
TIA,
rfh
