Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have been more explicit in the details, so let me try again: The CHAP authentication failure is on the STN box when it first boots up, not when I bring up a browser. STN attempts to make a connection at boot-up. As for the different scenarios, I have used STN with BellSouth.net via dialup, with BellSouth.net via ADSL, and with prestige.net via cable modem. STN works flawlessly in all of these scenarios. The only way I am able to connect to MSN, however, is direct with no STN. So obviously there is something that MSN is looking for that STN needs to send. I noticed that when I use MSN through prestige.net (similar to AOL's Bring Your Own Provider), I have to use "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" to get my mail. So I assume I have to use some kind of "Secure Password Authentication" from STN, but I don't know how to do this. On the Road Runner setting there are several selections for special requirements like that, but nothing similar on dial-up connections. As for dumping MSN, I can't do that for 3 years, since I used the $400 rebate at Best Buy to buy a bunch of goodies *S*. I use my cable modem most of the time, but needed a nationwide dial-up ISP for travelling, and I HATE the free ones. So, I'm kinda stuck. This is the log from STN: pppd[104]: Starting link chat[120]: report (CONNECT) chat[120]: abort on (ERROR) chat[120]: abort on (NO CARRIER) chat[120]: send (atdt<local msn #>^M) chat[120]: expect (CONNECT) chat[120]: atdt<local msn #>^M^M chat[120]: CONNECT chat[120]: -- got it pppd[104]: Serial connection established. pppd[104]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/cua0 pppd[104]: Remote message: ^@ pppd[104]: CHAP authentication failed pppd[104]: LCP terminated by peer pppd[104]: Connection terminated. pppd[104]: Connect time 0.1 minutes. pppd[104]: Starting link chat[143]: report (CONNECT) chat[143]: abort on (BUSY) chat[143]: abort on (ERROR) chat[143]: abort on (NO CARRIER) chat[143]: send (atdt<local msn #>^M) chat[143]: expect (CONNECT) chat[143]: alarm chat[143]: Failed pppd[104]: Connect script failed Anyone else encounter this problem?
