I assume that you have an Internet connection that is not faster that a
T1(1.544 mbps) and you are using this STN box as a firewall for it. There
is no speed improvement to changing the cards from 10mbps to 100 mbps.
Without looking at the docs for STN, my only recommendation is to get a NIC
that is compatible with the software. I know that 3com cards are compatible
and have used them in STN boxes. You may have to run the config program for
the cards to set the I/O address and give that to STN, but otherwise, they
are fine.

My LAN is slowly converting to Full Duplex 100BaseT. (though the system
I mainly use for Internet access is still Half Duplex 10BaseT, but I
have an order in to upgrade the machine....there's a bunch of NIC's on
order, so it'll just be a parts upgrade for me...though I've been
leaning towards either a CPU upgrade or a new machine entirely 8-).
So, I was wondering if there would be any improvement if I upgraded the
internal port of my STN box to a Full Duplex 100BaseT card (it'll be
RTL8139 based). The machine is currently a Pentium 100 with 48MB, and
both cards are cheap NE2000 ISA cards. Well, actually they were in the
same price range as the new cards that are coming.
Will it even work with the cards? I don't think any PCI cards can be
manually configured....at least none of the cheap ones around here.
Would PCI help at all...since I already have extra PCI RTL8029 based
cards laying around.
Pretty much unless there's any improvement to be gained, I'm not
interested in messing around with the STN box....which has been work
great for over 18 months now....though its only been up for 15 days this
latest go, because of a prolonged power outage.
