Yes, PCI are mostly 100 cards, but there is no reason not to put in a 10/100
switch or hub.  Even cable or DSL is no where near 10mbps, let alone
100mbps, so there is no slow down for the Internet caused by using 10mbps
cards.  I have used 3c905's in STN boxes, but alone with another card.  It
would then be simple to put in one ISA NE2000 clone card to face the
Internet and one 3c905 to face the internal network.

But that doesn't solve the problem of trying to use a new motherboard that
doesn't have an ISA slots...

I am thinking about upgrading my network to 100-base-t (& getting rid of 
my coax backbone!) now that I have cable.  Unfortunately, (it would 
seem) all 100-base-t cards are PCI - so I would have to do an upgrade to 
a PCI based system.

Most of the PCI stuff I have seen is auto-set (like you said), but it 
would be interesting if you could "fix" the setting for a slot.

I will have to look into this myself.
