In my instance (@home in Australia) the host name must be in quotes (") and
is used to identify the installation to the DHCP service. I guess they dont
use HFC MAC address because it changes if the modem needs changing. None of
the other entries are required. It does not impact any part of the internal
domain at all.

p.s. I have no idea what the internal name does - except maybe keep some
obscure part of the kernel happy? I do not know that it is ever
referenced anywhere else in the known universe.....
