Phillip,
-INBOUND- VPN does -NOT- work. Period. Don't even waste your time.
I devoted major hours to trying to figure this one out - and my son who
is a M$ MVP, and knows VPN fifteen different ways helped me - and we got
nowhere.
Basically, the problem is like this:
1. STN was designed for a small network to get outbound access. (The
typical scenerio is the home user with a s-load of computers, all trying
to access a cable connect, or dial-out...)
2. In order to enable -ANY- kind of VPN, you need to make certain very
specific changes to the kernel. (There are VPN / PPTP how-too's out
there all over the place.)
3. The changes needed to enable -OUTBOUND- VPN, and the changes needed
to enable -INBOUND- VPN, are by their nature, mutually exclusive. (This
is why, even in HUGE corporations with HUGE bux to spend on equipment,
only allow VPN one way, typically inbound.)
This is essentially true, regardless of the firwall you're using. A
huge bux Cisco router, or STN, share the same restrictions.
4. STN has -OUTBOUND- VPN enabled by default. It cannot be changed
without modifying the STN kernel - a task that I am not qualified to
discuss. (BTW, I -have- experimented with this, with no success)
Ergo: You're soaked. No can do. Not with STN.
-IF- inbound VPN is an engraved-in-steel, "the world will end if I don't
have it" requirement - you're going to have to grow your own.
Remember - when you turn on -INBOUND- VPN, you're soaked for -OUTBOUND-
VPN, and vice-versa.
Sorry for the bad news - but figure I'd better tell you now before you
waste huge hours on a vain cause.
