A sad thing has happened.... On November 29th, I ordered a Netgear MR314....because I decided it was time to check out wireless (and it was great during the Xmas holidays....me and my brother had our work laptops on, and my dad could still access the net).
And, then a couple months ago...I moved. At which point my old Pentium 100 which has been my STN box of almost 3 years....got pitched. What happened this morning? My MR314 died. I'm cut off from the Internet at home (well, not totally...) And, I have no box to put STN back onto to get myself going again. I also haven't had much use for wireless.... So....given that my choices are to run out and buy a PC to run STN or buy another router....I'm probably going to go with another router. Even though STN would do a better job (given that wireless is no longer needed, and I couldn't get IPSEC to work with the router [my employer won't turn on the options necessary to get it to work with any NAT..."they don't support it" for anything except their customized dialup package]). Worse...the new router is only so that I'll still have a function home network while I try to get Netgear to repair my MR314. Lawrence I suppose the only complaint I had about the old STN box was that it had gotten noisy in its old age.
