Ian,

1. Do they have a web site?

2. Eventually the "Overdrive" Pentium box (in an ancient XT case) that
was running my copy of STN packed it in... STN was still going strong -
however the hardware eventually bit the dust. I had a choice: dedicate
a AMD K6/2 400 mHz box to STN, or find something else.

My ultimate solution was a D-link NAT/Router box. It's smaller than a
cheapo TV Dinner, runs off a wall wart, and has four switched ports to
boot. Cost: (when I got it) < $70. Best Buy periodically runs specials
on them for as little as $40. For a plain-vanilla NAT/Router/gateway,
it's kinda hard to beat.

3. I am still very much interested in STN, especially the continuing
development - as (to this day) there are things you can do with STN that
you simply CANNOT do with an off-the-shelf box like my D-Link. With STN
open-source, set up with a current kernel, etc. it would ROCK for those
situations where plug-and-pray just doesn't hack it.

John L. has graciously consented to making this Open Source, just so
long as -he- doesn't own it! And, as someone who routinely works 20+
hour days, I can "feel his pain" ;-)

One thought that comes to mind, is Source Forge. I've heard of it from
other people I've met. Unfortuantely (up to this point) I have not had
the bandwidth to put into researching it.

Here's the question:

Maybe some of you folks out there in Television Land have run into
Source Forge, maybe you've worked with it, you know how it works, or
perhaps you can speak to this either aye or nay.

What say ye?

Jim

(This is probably more for John L. than anyone else, but if you have an
answer, or just want to put in your two cents, go right ahead!)

A computer club (NSPCUG) that I associate with on Long Island (I used to
live there & still show up for meetings periodically!) wants to start a
list like this one, where the membership (which has become rather
far-flung) can communicate.

What can you tell me about setting up a list like this one? Is there a
cost involved? Any "gotcha's" or cavaets?

Thanks!

Jim
