Sharity 2
=========
Version 0.19, the first beta of the Sharity 2 series, has been released. The
most important new features visible to the user are:
* It has an X-Windows GUI for configuration and dialogs.
* It has a browsing facility modelled after the Windows "Network
Neighborhood".
* It can use the Netbios Name Service to resolve hostnames.
This beta is available in source code format and as a Linux binary. There is
currently no user documentation except the online help.

You might want to know about the conditions for upgrading to 2.x. This
depends on the type of license you have. If your license begins with "02-",
the upgrade is FREE (that's roughly all licenses sold since late September
1998). Otherwise it costs the difference between the old and new price plus
59 USD handling expense. Academic licenses are still free.
Sharity 1
=========
The latest stable release of Sharity is version 1.09. We still suffer the
problem of compiling binaries for all supported platforms. We are trying to
get accounts for compiling on various platforms, but things are proceeding
slowly. If you can provide a user account for compiling (login with ssh over
internet, reliably available for a longer period of time), maybe in exchange
for a free license, please get in contact with me at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Platforms
of particular interest are: IRIX 5.3, IRIX 6.2, Solaris 2.5, Solaris 2.6 and
Unixware.
Development of Sharity 1.x will continue in maintainance mode. Bugs found in
Sharity 2.x will be fixed in 1.x, too.
