I am trying the demo version of sharity 2.0.7 on an RS/6000 43p-150 runningThis seems to be the same problem as it has been reported for AIX 5L. There is an entry in our knowledge base for this. I have also added it to the bugtracking system (Bug-ID 60) now. Here's the text:
AIX 4.3.3 ML 10. When I try cifsmount //jnaylorsp/tower /rxpc -P password
it comes back with the error UNIX: Invalid argument. If I try cifsmount
//jnaylorsp/tower /rxpc it comes back and prompts me for a password. I
enter the password and then it comes back with the same error. Each time I
get this error I have to stop and re-start sharityd or I will get the error
right away no matter what I do. I have tried Sharity version 2.0.5.0 an
RS/6000 Model 370 running AIX 4.3.2 with no maintenance levels applied and
it works fine. I there something I am missing?
Mounting fails with "Invalid argument" on AIX
If you have upgraded the package bos.net.nfs.client to a version newer than 5.1.0.14 (released in January 2002), Sharity may fail to mount anything. All mounts will abort with the error "Invalid argument".
The cause for this problem seems to be a bug in IBM's NFS kernel module. There is a patch available from IBM.
Software Versions and Setup:
This problem was first reported with AIX 5L and the patch 5.1.0.14 for bos.net.nfs.client, but it also affects newer versions of bos.net.nfs.client, probably even patches for AIX 4.
Known Workarounds:
There is a patch available from IBM for this problem. Please direct your web browser to the URL http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/aix.fixsearch5L and search for the APAR number IY31034. Follow the instructions in the README file of the package you can download from IBM.
Future Perspectives:
It is likely that this fix will be included in a future version of AIX 5L.
Versions affected by bug:
Versions affected: 1.x, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8
