Dear Sharity Users,
we have released Sharity 3 Beta 10 today. Apart from numerous minor fixes and improvements, this version adds full German localization. Free expiring Beta licenses are available.

Other comments are the same as for the previous release:

Why should you install this Beta?
=================================
Many people are reluctant to install a beta version of a file system. So why should you install it? We think there are two good reasons: (1) If you report your concerns, feature requests and problems now, we can honor them in the final release. And (2) this version should perform definitely faster than Sharity 2 on most platforms. Note: Sharity 2 and 3 can both be installed on the same machine, see the Readme file.

If you are concerned about stability and reliability, see below:

What to expect from this Version
================================
* Data Corruption: The file system engine has been thoroughly tested and
no data corrupting bugs have been found since months. We are therefore
  reasonably sure that it does not corrupt or delete files.
* Stability: While crashes during file operations (read, write, rename,
  list, delete) are very unlikely, crashing bugs in the administrative
code (login, logout, mount, automount etc.) are possible. This part of the code has not gone through automated tests. Although a daemon crash is quite unpleasant because it hangs all processes accessing the mount,
  it is almost always possible to recover without a reboot, see the
  "Troubleshooting" section in the Guide.
* Performance: This version should perform definitely better than
  Sharity 2 on most platforms (exceptions: AIX and IRIX). On a switched
100 Mbit network, we would consider transfer rates below 7 Mbytes/ s for
  large files as a bug (on reasonably fast clients and servers, of
  course).
* Features: We won't add any more features before the final release
unless there are very good reasons and it can be expected that the new
  feature does not introduce new bugs. In other words: This version is
  more or less the same as 3.0 final, as far as features are concerned.

Your Feedback
=============
Please install this beta and tell us:

  - What is your perceived performance? Are there operations which are
    particularly slow? Something where you think we could improve?
  - User experience: Do you understand how to use Sharity 3? Do you
    think you overlooked some features? Are there features you don't
    understand (except some more esoteric configuration options)? Any
    suggestions for improvements?
- Documentation: Does the GUI help explain what you need to know? Is it
    understandable? Is the manual understandable? Suggestions for
    improvements?
  - Any bugs, misbehavior?
  - If you think the user interface or documentation is unclear, please
    also tell us your background: Are you a Mac user? A Linux user?
    A system administrator? A geek? Or are you a grandmother type user?

Send your feedback to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. If you want to discuss your ideas publicly, we invite you to join the <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> mailing list at http://at.obdev.at/mailman/listinfo/sharity3-beta.

Changes since Beta 9
====================
- X-Windows GUI brings up panels even if minimized.
- X-Windows config window has an icon if minimized.
- Language and "don't ask again" preferences are now saved.
- Disabled window's close box for alerts and dialogs.
- Fixed redraw bug in GUI.
- Fixed possible crash in commandline tool "sharity" when a password
  error occurs.

Known Bugs an Problems:
=======================
- Mac OS X version of the GUI may crash when it reports that you exceed
the license limit. This crash is not in our code and we have not found
  a workaround yet.
- Sub-optimal performance on IRIX and AIX because NFS over TCP does not
  work yet.
- No Kerberos module for FreeBSD and OpenBSD.
